Council delighted with plans to withdraw rail ticket office closures
The Government has announced the decision to reverse the closure of hundreds of rail ticket offices.
Wychavon has welcomed the news that the railway station ticket offices on the list for closure in the proposals announced by the Rail Delivery Group in the summer, including Worcestershire Parkway, will now remain open.
Concerns were raised by Wychavon and other district councils in Worcestershire about the proposals. The council expressed concerns about the impact of the changes on users of rail services in the county, including tourists and the personal safety of all travellers.
Councillor Christoper Day, Leader of Wychavon District Council, said: “The right decision has been made here, for our businesses, residents and tourists, and I am delighted with the result. In an age where we are encouraging people to make use of public transport, it needs to be as easy as possible to travel. The public has been heard, and I am delighted that Wychavon was part of the process.”
